Second Nine Defeats Andover.

The Second nine defeated Andover yesterday in a sharply-played game by the score of 9 to 5. The game was won by hard batting, the Second nine securing thirteen hits off the Andover pitcher.

The fielding on both sides was sharp, though Andover made several errors on hard chances.

In the first inning the Second gained a lead of five runs by an error, a base on balls, three singles, and a double by Keene. In four other innings they scored by well-bunched hits. Andover could not score till the fourth inning, when an error, an out, and a hit brought in one run. In the next inning, a base on balls, two hits and a wild throw allowed three more runs to score. For the rest of the game Andover was easily shut out.

Coburn pitched very steadily, striking out eight men, and he became more effective toward the end. Keene played the best game in the field, having two put-outs and seven assists without an error.

Captain Winslow was much the best player for Andover. The feature of the game was a double play from Putnam to Jaynes, in the ninth inning, retiring the side.
