Fifty candidates reported for the freshman baseball team at Princeton.

The Freshman basketball team was defeated by the Watertown Y. M. C. A. team at the latter's gymnasium last night by a score of 30-6.

E. E. Southard 3M. has been chosen first substitute on the American chess team, which is to play against England in the international cable chess match.

At Yale the preliminary trials of speakers for the Harvard-Yale debate will be held tomorrow. As at Harvard most of the old debaters will be unable to compete this year.

The California Club has elected the following officers: President, E. W. Howard; vice-president, W. J. Reid '01; secretary, W. M. Chadbourne '00; treasurer, B. F. Thomas '03.

The weld Freshmen have been divided up into eight crews which will row on the machines in regular order. The Newell squad has not yet been divided and no attempt will be made to do so till the men begin work on the river about the middle of March.
