SLOW PRACTICE.

The practice yesterday was a continuation of the unsatisfactory work of Wednesday. The whole team was listless, and the men showed a tendency to shirk by taking out time for trivial injuries. There was a surprising amount of fumbling, holding and off side play, which is scarcely to be expected from a team which has held so much practice. The linemen played too high and failed to get their full strength into the charging, while the backs ran so high that they were easily stopped. The whole eleven was unsuccessful in getting the jump in defensive play, and the second team made several good line gains on this account.

Kendall, Sawin, Campbell, and Hallowell were on the field dressed to play, but did not get into the games and only took some light exercise. Ellis was not present and Captain Daly had to use crutches to get around. P. D. Haughton '99 was on the field again, and most of the game was devoted to punting in order to let him coach Stillman in this particular. He and Stillman went in on opposite sides in the game and had several punting duels, although they did no playing.

In the forty-minute game the first eleven scored only once. After receiving the kick off the three backs gradually worked the ball down the field, principally by line plays, to the second eleven's five yard line. There Brayton fumbled, but Fincke picked up the ball and carried it across the line. Soon after the next kick-off Rainsford had a chance for place-kick goal from the first team's thirty yard line, but failed. The first team could not gain after this because of the frequent fumbles, holdings, and off side plays, and the rest of the time was given up to almost continual punting:
