Change in Gymnasium Shower Baths.

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

A recent change in the arrangement of the shower baths at the Gymnasium remedies what was hitherto a serious fault of the equipment. Formerly the hot water was led from a tank containing water at a boiling temperature, and mixed with water at the same pressure by adjustment at the valves connected with each shower. Caroless turning on of the hot water or increased flow of hot water, due to the shutting off of other valves in the shower-room, frequently led to unpleasant scalding accidents. An automatic temperature regulator has now been introduced which does not allow the water of the spray to exceed 135 degrees in temperature under any circumstances. This temperature may be borne for at least half a minute without serious discomfort, sufficient time being thus allowed for making any desired change in the adjustment of the valves.
