Football at Yale.

The Yale coaches are not satisfied with the recent development of the football squad. The one important fault is the slow starting of the backs on line plays. Brilliant individual work behind the line has resulted in large scores for Yale in every game this season, although the team work has been imperfect. The warm weather lately has been a great drawback to fast practice and it has made the team a little languid at times. This, however, seemed to disappear in the game with Bates on Wednesday in the rain, when for the first time the backs had sufficient life.

The line is getting well shaken together and will be very strong before the season ends. Olcott and Brown, both men of last year's team, with Hamlin, make a powerful centre. The tackles, Stillman at right and Bloomer at left, are a strong pair. The latter, who is only a Freshman, has improved much under the direction of the coaches, and will be a fast player. Kunzig is his rival. Thus with Gould and Coy at the ends, the whole line has taken form and is now beginning to act as a unit.

The backs are heavy and experienced. Hale, centre rush last year, is almost a fixture at fullback. Sharpe alone of the halfbacks is playing a brilliant game. He is still weak, however.

The team will play Dartmouth tomorrow at Newton.
