The Rifle and Pistol Club has been practicing for three weeks in the Cage building on Soldiers Field. Weekly matches for the purpose of testing the material, semi-weekly meets for practice, and bi-weekly matches for the Bancroft cup, will be held there regularly until the match with Yale in April.
In addition to the perpetual club cup, now held by G. Bancroft '99, and the cups for the rifle and pistol championships, the re-entry matches, and the handicap matches, the club offers two new cups for competition, the championship cup, given by G. Bancroft '99, and the novice cup. The man winning the most of the bi-weekly matches is entitled to the first of these prizes, and according to the requirements regulating the second, it will be awarded to the man making the best score with the rifle, pistol, or revolver, who has never before won a shooting prize.
In order to stimulate further competition, a system of awarding cups for proficiency in shooting has been newly adopted. Cups will be awarded in four grades, which are regulated according to the rules of the M. R. A.
Practice matches for the revolver team have been arranged with Light Battery A, Heavy Battery A, the B. A. A., the M. R. A., and the Smith and Wesson teams, but the dates have not been definitely decided upon.
The first bi-weekly match for the revolver championship cup, will be held on Wednesday, January 17.S
The officers of the club are: H. M. Channing '01, president, and J. H. Shirk '02, secretary.
