HOLY CROSS BEATEN.

The Nine Shows an Imprvement in General Form.

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

At Worcester yesterday afternoon, the 'Varsity nine showed a decided improvement over its form of the last two weeks by defeating Holy Cross by a score of 9 to 4 Strong batting and sharp, snappy fielding enabled the nine to secure an unusually large lead in the first half of the game. Holy Cross played a plucky game throughout, but was unable to make a stand against Harvard's hitting. In spite of his lame side, Hayes proved very effective, and kept the hits well scattered. Toward the end, however, he let up somewhat, but not until after the game was well in hand.

The 'Varsity's batting was about the best of the year, and in the fifth inning Linnehan was forced to give way to McKenna. All the men hit the ball fairly well, while Burgess, in particular, out of four times at bat, knocked out a home run, a double and two singles.

The work of the infield was fast and accurate. Most of the chances in the outfield went to Rand, who accepted all of his chances, six flies, one of which, in the eighth inning, seemed good for a home run. Double plays were made by the 'Varsity in the fifth, seventh and eighth innings and by Holy Cross in the second.
