A very large audience attended Mr. Copeland's reading from the works of Oliver Goldsmith yesterday afternoon. His first selection was from a "Group of Songs" and included "The Three Jolly Pigeons" and another song originally written for the part of Miss Hardcastle in "She Stoops to Conquer." Mr. Copeland also read Thackeray's Essay on Goldsmith from "The English Humorists," "Bean Tibs at Home," from "A Citizen of the World," "The Haunch of Venison," and passages from "The Deserted Village" and "Retaliation."
