Reception to Southard.

The Boston Chess Club tendered a reception to E. E. Southard 1 M., Saturday evening at the club rooms, 18 Boylston place. President A. H. Soden, in the name of the club, presented him with a handsome silver medal as a souvenir of his success and of the occasion. The medal bears the inscription "To Elmer E. Southard, who has an unbroken record in three intercollegiate contests." Southard replied briefly, thanking the donors. F. E. Thayer '99, president of the Harvard Chess Club, also spoke.

The reception closed with a chess match, between two teams selected from among those present.
