Harvard's Coaches.

Every year a large number of graduates devote their time to helping Harvard athletics by coaching the teams. To these men the undergraduates owe especial thanks, and therefore it seems of interest to note who they have been this year.

During the football season, an especially large number of graduates were continually on the field, and the candidates for every position received thorough drill. Besides B. G. Waters '94, who acted as head coach, M. Newell '94, W. H. Lewis '94, R. W. Emmons '95, W. C. Mackie '95, A. Brewer '96, R. D. Wrenn '96, J. H. Sears '90, Frank Hallowell '93, B. W. Trafford '93, Mr. Deland and Dr. Brooks gave their attention to the team.

The Freshman eleven received the attention of J. Crane '90 during the early part of the season and later of G. Murchie '95.

During Mr. Lehmann's absence in England this winter his work with the crew was taken up and carried on faithfully by G. S. Mumford '87, J. J. Storrow '85 and Francis Peabody Jr. During the winter and spring, R. M. Townsend '96 carefully trained the Freshman crew, bringing the men into good form, before Mr. Lehmann took charge of them. After the class crews went on the water, X. H. Goodnough '82 coached the '97 for some time, while Lincoln Davis '94 and J. J. Storrow '85 gave their attention to '98 and '99 respectively. Besides these, W. S. Youngman '95 and Arthur Stevens '97 deserve special praise for their faithful work in coaching the Weld crews.

In baseball this spring the larger part of the coaching has been carried on by C. Smith '85. Mr. Smith has efficiently aided Captain Dean all through the season. Frank Hallowell '93 has also occasionally coached the team. The Freshman nine have W. L. Garrison '97 and J. W. Edmunds '98 to thank for their services.
