The April Monthly.

The April number of the monthly just out is on the whole rather formidable than entertaining. It opens with a treatise on railroading which is, to say the least, too technical for its environment. The next article is entitled Coleridge and the Ancient Mariner, and is marked by a sincerity marred only by its lack of originality.

The issue becomes more interesting, however, with H. W. Miller's "Touch and Go." The author again displays his skill in dialogue. He starts out brilliantly, but ends up in a slough of stage directions.

The discussion by undergraduates of the proposed three-year plan is both timely and interesting. Student opinion would appear to oppose such a change on the ground of lowering the value of the college degree.

The only other noticeable contribution is a vivid little sketch of praisworthy simplicity by H. M. Rideout '99.
