PHILADELPHIA, Nov. 4, 1897.
With the signal defeat of Brown last Saturday the strength of Pennsylvania's team this year has been proved beyond a doubt to be unusually great, and disregarding the possibility of a "slump" or the handicap of an unusual number of injuries to the men, it is the general opinion that the game with Harvard will be a hard fought one.
The results of the freshman and novice track games held on Franklin Field promise some very good material to be worked upon by Trainer Murphy in preparation for the Intercollegiate Games. A. C. Kraenglim won three out of nine events: 120 yards dash in 12 4-5 sec., 120 yards hurdle in 17 2-5 sec., and jumped 20 ft. 3 in. in the broad jump. H. A. Gibbons won the mile walk in the novice games, took second place in the fall handicap games held last Saturday, and with proper training should make a place on the track team.
The new building of the Law Department which is to be erected at the corner of 34th and Chestnut streets, as soon as funds are raised, will contain in addition to lecture and quiz rooms a large library to receive the twenty thousand volumes now in the possession of the school, together with such as may be added to these in the future. There will also be a large hall for reading and study in which a separate desk will be assigned to each student.
