Baseball Practice.

The baseball practice yesterday afternoon brought out almost enough candidates to make up six full teams. As this is a greater number of men than was expected, the squad will be reduced till there are only enough for four nines, which will then start the regular fall practice.

The work started with a game between two nines captained by Chandler '98 and Lynch '99, respectively. Only three innings were played, Lynch's team winning by the score of nine to four. Two more nines were then made up and the men changed from time to time in order to give a all trial before the squad is reduced.

The playing for the most part was rather poor, though some of the new men showed up well. The batting was weak, but the wildness of the different pitchers may have accounted for it in a measure, as about half the men were sent to first on balls.

The nines were made up as follows:

Stearns, Hayes, p.; Davis, c.; Whitbeck. 1b.; Vincent, 2b.; Litchfield, 3b.; McVey, s. s.; Rand, l. f.; Lynch, c. f.; Robertson, r. f.

Doran, Morse, p.; Edmands, c.; Hoyt, 1b.; Chandler, 2b.; Clark, 3b.; Galbraith, s. s.; Foster, l. f.; Quincy, c. f.; Goodrich, r. f.

Hayes, p.; Egbert, c.; Appleton, 1b.: Farrington, 2b.; Clarke, Wilder, 3b.; Putnam, s. s.; Holt, Waterhouse, l. f.; Abbott, Lissner, c. f.; S. Robinson, Wadleight, r. f.

Fitz, p.; Simpson, c.; Hall, 1b.; Churchill, Holden, 2b.; Robinson, 3b.; Underwood, Sargent, s. s.; Martin, l. f.; George, c. f.; F. D. Robinson, r. f.
