The Louisburg Cross Returned.

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

The Louisburg Cross, which mysteriously disappeared from the College Library a year ago last October was returned yesterday morning in a manner not yet made public.

It will be remembered that the Louisburg Cross is one of the oldest and most valued relics in the possession of the University. When the British captured Louisburg in 1755, one of the soldiers obtained the cross and brought it back to Boston. Soon after it was given to the University and when Gore Hall was built in 1841 it was set in the wall of the old transept on the side where the stack was subsequently built.

When Dr. Winsor became librarian eighteen years ago he found the cross scored in the cellar of the Library; at his suggestion it was gilded and placed over the entrance of the building, where it remained until last year.
