The Glee and Dramatic Clubs.- This Year's Registration.

PHILADELPHIA, PA., Jan. 11, 1897.

The concert given by the Musical Clubs on December twelfth was a great success. It was given in the Academy of Music before a large audience, and was under the direction of the following executive committee: G. L. McAvoy, manager; L. A. Dewing, president; H. M. Boyer, secretary; E. A. Smith, treasurer; W. J. Goeckel, leader of the Glee Club; and R. C. Smith, leader of the Banjo Club.

The recently elected Board of Directors of the Athletic Association held a meeting on December 15, and electee the following officers for the ensuing year: President, H. Lanssatt Geyelin; vice-president, Thomas Reath; secretary, John Neill; treasurer, Clifford Pemberton, Jr.

On December seventeenth the Garrick Club, one of the two dramatic clubs of the university, presented a very creditable performance of Pinero's comedy "Dandy Dick." The following evening the Yale Musical Clubs gave their annual Philadelphia concert at the Academy of Music. After the performance, which was a thoroughly enjoyable one, and attended largely by Pennsylvania students, a smoker was tendered the members of the clubs, at the University Club.

Mr. Campbell Emory McMichael, Yale '90 S., has recently been appointed to the position of Assistant to the Provost of the University. On the evening of December twenty-second, was held the first preliminary trial for the Cornell debate. On this occasion the ten best speakers were selected to speak at the the second trial, which will be held on January twelfth, when the three regular speakers and one alternate, who will represent Pennsylvania in the annual debate with Cornel on March sixth.

The Sophomore Dance, the first college dance of the year, took place in Houston Hall on Wednesday, December 23. The dance was managed by a committee of twelve, with George G. Thomson as chairman. The Christmas vacation for the entire University began the following day, and continued until January 4. During the recess the musical clubs took a trip through the state, giving six concerts in various towns and cities.

The proof sheets of this year's University Catalogue show the following summary: Officers of instruction, 202; students, 2811, a gain of 179 over last year. The university has suffered a serious loss by the death of Professor Theodore G. Wormley, on January 3. Dr. Wormley was a member of the Medical Faculty for twenty years, and was a chemist and toxicologist of great reputation.

On January 5, the election was announced of Francis W. Sinkler '97 to the position of manager of the university crew for the coming season.
