8 Takeaways From Harvard’s Task Force Reports

NEWTON A. A., 15; HARVARD, 7.

The Nine Loses the Game by Very Poor Playing.

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Harvard played a wretched game yesterday afternoon at Newton, losing 15 to 7.

The men seemed tired and the game was listless. The only man on the Nine who seemed wide awake was Chandler, who accepted all his chances, and made a star one-hand catch of a low line ball in the sixth.

Fitz was tried in the box, but was hit for two singles, a home run and a two bagger in succession. Haughton then took his place.

In the second Burgess muffed a fly, allowing Merrifield to go to third. Clarkson misjudged Bustard's high fly and the ball rolled way out into the field. Scannell followed with a passed ball.

Harvard later hit Dowd for four singles. In addition to this Merrifield made an error and Dowd gave four men bases on balls. The bases were still full when Rand went out on a slow grounder.

Harvard did not score again, with the exception of one run in the ninth on errors. Newton on the other hand piled up hits and runs almost at will, aided by Harvard's miserable fielding.
