Garber Privately Tells Faculty That Harvard Must Rethink Messaging After GOP Victory
PRINCETON, N. J., June 10.- Harvard defeated Princeton today by a wonderful streak of batting during the last two innings when the game seemed hopelessly lost. The excitement throughout the game was intense and the cheering magnificent.
The credit for the victory belongs to Rand who brought in the three runs which tied the score in the seventh inning. Three men were on bases and no one out. Dean was forced at the plate and Haughton struck out. Rand then knocked a beautiful three base hit to deep centre field and cleared the bases.
In the eighth inning with one man out, Chandler and Dean hit safely. Scannell then struck out, but Burgess was hit by pitched ball. Clarkson then made a timely hit and Haughton followed him with another. Rand's base on balls forced in a run. Princeton was then unable to overcome Harvard's lead.
Paine was very wild during the early part of the game, giving six bases on balls and hitting two men. He was, however, very effective and allowed only three scattered hits, one of which was a scratch. All the outfielders made brilliant catches, but the infield was rather unsteady. For Princeton Wilson pitched well until his arm gave out, and Altman made a fine running catch. Kelly fielded very poorly.
