HARVARD, 8; PENNSYLVANIA,3.

Last Saturday at Philadelphia Harvard won the first game with University of Pennsylvania by the score of eight to three. The game was marked by light batting on both sides, but Harvard won by bunching their hits well in the three innings in which they scored. Harvard made but one error, but Pennsylvania's fielding was very poor and her errors costly.

Paine pitched a splendid game for Harvard and to him is due most of the credit for the victory. Only three hits were made off him in eight innings and he struck out ten men. In the ninth inning when the game was practically won, Pennsylvania made four hits which brought in two of her runs. There were two men on bases when Voight made the third out trying to take second on his single.

Scannell caught a good game and Clarkson and Rand did well in the field. Holloway did the best work for Pennsylvania both in the field and at the bat, where he led both teams with a home run and two singles.

O'Donnell started to pitch for Pennsylvania, but he was batted hard, and in the fifth inning his place was taken by Wunder, who did well until the eighth, inning, when Harvard scored three runs.

U.of P. went to bat first, and after one man was out Holloway knocked a home run over Rand's head. The next two men were easy outs, however. Harvard first scored in the third inning. Pote went out to pitcher and then Dean made a single. Wilhelm threw Scannell's grounder over Jackson's head. Scannell took third and Dean scored. Then Burgess brought Scannell in with his two bagger and himself scored on Middleton's wild throw.

In the next inning Harvard made two more runs. Haughton singled and Paine took first on balls. Pote was out to Blakeley, but Wilhelm fumbled Dean's hit and Haughton and Paine both came in.

In the fifth Wunder was put in the box and neither side scored for the next three innings, but in the eighth Harvard made her final three runs. Haughton led off with a home run, then Wilhelm threw Paine's hit over Jackson's head and Paine took second. Pote singled and both men scored on Dean's twobagger.

In the ninth inning U. of P. began to hit the ball. Holloway singled, the next two men flied out, but Blakely brought Holloway in with his three-bagger and scored a moment later on a passed ball. Jackson singled and Voight followed his example but was out trying for second on his single. This ended the game, making the final score 8 to 3.
