Freshmen, 10; Somerville High, 5

Yesterday afternoon the Freshman Nine defeated Somerville High School in an interesting game by the score of ten to five. The game was very loosely played on both sides, and the batting was only fair. Mains pitched a good game for Ninety-nine till in the eighth inning he wrenched his knee and had to stop playing. The fielding of the Freshmen was decidedly poor, and has not improved at all lately. Davis especially did not play nearly the game he is capable of, and, though an injured finger is some excuse, his throwing is apt to be very wild. Galbraith took Thompson's place at second base, but his playing was only fair, while Morse at shortstop was very weak. Litchfield at third played his usual good game, with the exception of one excusable error, and his batting has improved immensely. As a whole the nine did not play nearly the game they are capable of, and several times showed a deplorable lack of judgment.

For Somerville, Pike did the best work, his throwing to bases being very fine. Teague pitched a good game and McRae made several pretty catches in left field. Lyman did the best work at the bat, making two out of the five hits.

In the first inning Ninety-nine failed to score while Somerville made one run. Neither side scored in the second, but in the third the Freshmen made five runs almost entirely on errors by Somerville and a hit by Litchfield. Somerville also made two runs in this inning on two hits an error by second base and a base on balls. In the fifth Robinson got to second on errors and came in on Mains hit. In the seventh the Freshmen made another run on hits by Morse and Litchfield, and in the ninth three more on hits by Litchfield, McCall and Galbraith, while Somerville made two chiefly by Ninety-nine's errors.
