Freshman Nine, 15; M. I. T. '98, 9.

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Yesterday afternoon the Freshman Baseball Nine defeated the Institute of Technology '98 nine, 15 to 9, on Soldiers Field in eight innings. The game lasted more than two hours and was very slow and uninteresting. The batting order of the teams was as follows:

FRESHMEN. M. I. T. '98.

Adams, s.s. Hubbard, l.f.

Lynch. p. Emery, 1b.

Mains, r.f. Wood, 2b.

Davis, c. Mubylig, 3b.

Sherwin, 1b. Jones, s.s.

Litchfield, 3b. Delano, p.

McCall, c.f. Crowell, r.f.

Sears, l.f. Wing, c.f.

Cole, 2b. Barber, c.

In the sixth inning Henry was put in at centre field on the Freshman Nine, and in the eighth Barstow took right field. Captain Thompson was prevented from playing on account of a sore arm, so Adams acted in his place.

The M. I. T. '98 team was considered pretty strong as they have defeated most of the school teams around Boston, but they did not show up very well.

The Freshmen made seventeen hits off Delano. The batting of Sherwin and Davis for the Freshmen was very good, but the latter's throwing to second was not nearly up to his usual standard. The fielding of the Freshman Nine was at times extremely ragged and not so good as they have been doing during the past week. After the third inning the result of the game was practically decided. The score by innings was:

Innings, 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8

Freshmen, 2 2 1 2 3 4 1 0-15

M. I. T.'98, 2 3 0 0 0 3 1 0-9
