Lacrosse Practice.

In preparation for the lacrosse match which has been arranged for this afternoon between the Harvard twelve and the Canadian champions from Montreal, the members of the team have been practising each afternoon for the short time since college began, and on Saturday afternoon had a final practice game against a picked twelve composed of players from the Cambridge and Somerville clubs. The game began about half past four, and the twelves continued their play until long after it was dusk. The grass was slippery and the ball was hard to see in the evening light, so that the game was full of errors. Want of practice and training seemed to be the chief faults in the Harvard team, things which will be remedied before the regular spring games are played, but which it has been impossible to overcome this fall because of the short time for preparation, the Montreals being unwilling to longer put off their tour through the United States. Judging from the material which has showed up this fall, there is a prospect of making up a good team for next spring to compete for the college championship. Among the new men who played in the game on Saturday were Howes, '86, Blake and Hale, '87.

Blake for a new man did good work in goal and the other two men with continued hard practice ought to develop into good players. No exact score of the number of goals made by each side was kept, but two or three were taken by Harvard and three or four by the picked team. As some were made after darkness had set in, the score is of little importance.
