Bishop Vincent of Kansas conducted Vesper Service yesterday afternoon in Appleton Chapel. He took as his text Hebrew xi, 6: "But without faith it is impossible to please Him."
Bishop Vincent dwelt upon the thought of God as revealed in the study of nature and Art. Every growing thing, every human life, is a word of God. The flowers, the leaves, the trees, the hills, all are beautiful in themselves, but they are more beautiful as the symbols of divine beauty.
In order to understand our Bibles we study Greek, yet this preparation by means of study is not to be compared with the possession of the faculty of seeing and understanding God's revelations when they are shown to us in simple things. Possessing this faculty our present life is not an isolated one, short and uncertain, but merely a part or beginning of the eternal life. But without the consciousness of God's presence in all nature, life loses its purpose and degenerates into a cold, hopeless existence.
The choir sang "Arise, O Jerusalem," by Oliver King; "Not a Sparrow Falleth," by Gilbert, and "The King of Love," by Shelley.
