Marshall Newell '94, was among the coaches on Soldiers Field yesterday afternoon. He wore his football clothes and lined up at right tackle on the second eleven for a time. Newell will assist in the coaching for the rest of the season.
Mackie, Med., also played on the second eleven against Holt. Lewis did most of the coaching of the men while Mr. Deland directed the style of play. Besides these coaches Sears, captain of the eleven in '88, did some effective work with the backs of the first eleven.
The men showed the effects of Saturday's game. Cabot did not play, and Donald had to stop playing. F. Shaw, however, played centre again and did not show the effects of the injury he received in the Michigan game.
The playing yesterday was slow. One touchdown was made by each eleven, Newell '98, scoring for the 'varsity and Newell '94, for the second eleven. Neither touchdown was made by deliberate rushing.
The chief change in the make-up of the eleven was in putting Beale at quarterback on the first eleven, Borden going to the second. There was not much difference in their playing, both doing fairly well.
The line-up was:
