The games in the chess tournament have now been reduced to the finals, which will soon be played off by the following men: E. E. Southard 1M., F. E. Thayer '99, J. Hewins, Jr., '98, P. W. Long '98, and H. V. Poor 1901.

The two winners will be sent on to New York as Harvard's representatives in the intercollegiate chess tournament which will be played during the Christmas vacation, with representative players from Yale, Columbia and Princeton. The University of Pennsylvania has applied for admission to the tournament and may possibly be included.

Harvard has now held the cup three years and must hold it seven consecutive years more before she can keep it.

The interclass games which will take place later will probably be followed by some simultaneous games to be played here in Cambridge by representative players from Boston. The Chess Club is also going to arrange games with Andover and the Boston Chess Club. The challenge sent by the University of California to play a game by telegraph is at present in the hands of a committee.
