'VARSITY PRACTICE.

Snappy Play-Waters and Newell Play on the Second Eleven.

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Nearly all of the regular 'Varsity players were either laid off with sickness or given a rest yesterday afternoon. Warren was again out and played the greater part of the practice game, but Bouve, Donald, Sawin, Cabot and Swain were none of them dressed for practice. Swain's injury sustained in Saturday's game consists of a severe wrench of the elbow which will probably prevent him from playing for a week or so. Of the convalescents, Bouve and Donald are rapidly recovering, Sawin is still crippled, and Moulton and Cabot are being given a rest to recuperate from the effects of the recent hard games.

Preparatory to the line-up of the two elevens yesterday the backs devoted a great deal of time to goal kicking. The two elevens then lined up for a few minutes of sharp, hard work. Perkins and Bull, of last year's 'Varsity crew, came out for the first time, playing right and left half on the second squad respectively. Perkins tackled strongly, but was injured so early in the game that no opportunity was given of judging of his possibilities as a back. Bull also dove into the interference well but in his rushing showed a lack of experience and practice. Throughout the game, the first eleven forced the play by hard rushes through the line into the second's territory. The 'Varsity line was greatly superior to the second's, the result being that the second rushed the ball little and were forced to punt continually.

Parker made the star play of the day by running from the middle of the field to the goal line after receiving a punt. Warren played a hard game. He punted fairly well and rushed the ball for good gains. Richardson still continued his good work of last Saturday, by pulling in the end plays and tackling strongly on punts.

Toward the last few minutes of practice, Ex-captain Wrightington coached the team on getting down the field on the kick-off, and protecting the runner by the formation of interference. In one of these trials, Cozzens carried the ball 50 yards behind the strongest kind of interference.

The line-up yesterday was:
