One of the best collections of short stories that has appeared this year is entitled "College Girls," by Abbe Carter Goodloe. (Charles Scribner's Sons, $1.25.) The volume contains fourteen short stories which are all equally good. They are by all odds the best stories of American college life that have ever been written. The stories originally appeared in Scribner's magazine, and Gibson's illustrations have been reproduced in the book.

From a technical standpoint, Messrs. Scribner have made a beautiful book. The cover design by Gibson is admirable.

We are in receipt of another book of short stories, "The Bachelor's Christmas and other Stories," by Robert Grant. (Charles Scribner's Sons, $1.50.) These stories also appeared in magazine form. The illustrations are by Messrs. Gibson, Wiles, Wenzell, and Carleton. Mr. Grant's style is too familiar to require any comment. Suffice it to say that these are among the best stories that he ever wrote and their popularity is assured.
