Last evening, at Professor Shaler's house, a meeting was held to discuss the debating clubs, a large number of intercollegiate debaters and Professors Shaler, Briggs, Cummings, Baker and Hart were present.
The needs and opportunities of debating here were thoroughly discussed, and much interest and enthusiasm were shown.
It was proposed to constitute a committee to watch over debating interests in general and to assume control and responsibility in 'varsity debate arrangements. The nucleus of the committee will probably be composed of members of the Union, the Forum, and the freshman club. who will elect other members from among the graduates and the Faculty.
It is hoped that if this plan can be carried out it will result in great benefit to debating, and will at all events place it upon a more secure footing in the University.
