Harvard Students To Vote on Divestment From Israel in Inaugural HUA Election Survey
EXETER, N. H., Sept. 23.- A new committee such as never before existed in the history of Phillips Exeter Academy is at once to be appointed. It will be called the advisory committee, and the members will be selected from the faculty in order that a closer relationship shall exist between the students and the faculty.
This morning at chapel Principal Deering made the following remarks, which were greeted with the heartiest applause by the students. He said:
"The public looks for a closer relationship between the students of the school and the instructors than has seemingly hitherto existed. Both the members of the faculty and students have received severe criticisms for holding themselves aloof from each other.
This the teachers think unjust, for they believe in the boys of today and believe Exeter's students are just as loyal and interested in the school as Phillips Exeter students ever have been.
"To bring about a closer relationship between faculty and students we are going to adopt one of the customs of Harvard and appoint an advisory committee in the faculty.
"Each member of this committee will have a certain number of boys to whom they will give advice, explain regulations, be willing at all times to listen to a student's views on any school matter, and represent them in the faculty meetings."
