The sophomore crew rowed on the river for the first time this spring yesterday afternoon. It was expected that the sophomores would begin work on the water sooner, but Captain Burgess preferred to keep his men at work in the tank, thinking that the individual faults of the men could best be corrected there. The crew is rowing in better form than any of the class crews, and if it improves as rapidly in its work on the water as may be expected will certainly make a good showing in the class races. The men rowed yesterday in the following order: Stroke, Miller; 7, Davis, 6, Slade; 5, Earle; 4, Hathaway; 3, Maynard; 2, Bisbee; bow, Hand. This not the probable make-up of the boat; Burgess will probably row bow, and Keyes, who rowed No. 7 in the crew last year is certain of a place in the boat.
All of the crews except the freshmen have been seen on the river, and the freshmen will go out for the first time this afternoon. C. A. Hight, L. S., is coaching the Sophomores at present, and Carpenter, L. S., has charge of the freshmen.
