Colonel Samuel E. Winslow '85 has accepted the position of head coach to the 'varsity baseball nine. Colonel Winslow is a man who has done a great deal for Harvard in baseball matters, and is eminently fitted for the position which he has accepted. In 1885 he was captain of the 'varsity nine, which did not lose a game during the whole season. Never before nor since has Harvard had such a collection of strong hitters. The batting of the team was phenomenal, and it was this chiefly which was responsible for such an enviable record.
In 1893 Colonel Winslow was head coach of the nine of which Frothingham was captain, and the team was the best that Harvard has had for years.
In 1893 and 1894 Colonel Winslow was chairman of the Republican State Committee and is well known throughout the state as an organizer and a man of exceptional ability. Colonel Winslow's acceptance of the position of coach makes the prospects for a good nine much brighter, and it gives a feeling of confidence to the entire college to know that the success of the team is in the hands of a man whose ability is unquestioned.
