PRINCETON, N. J., March 8.

The final contest to choose Princeton's representatives in the Harvard-Princeton debate took place last week. There was an unusual attendance of the students and great enthusiasm was shown. The following men were chosen to represent Princeton: Frederick W. Loetscher '96, Iowa; Robert M. McElroy '96, Mo.; Herbert Ure '96, N. J. Edward W. Hamilton '96 was selected to serve as alternate. The success of the contest and the enthusiasm manifested makes it more and more evident that there is a growing interest in debate among the student body in general and it only remains to allow those who struggle for the honor or representing Princeton in this field their proper position in our respect and admiration.

The final weeding out of the freshman baseball candidates has taken place with the result that four men have been transferred to the 'varsity squad and a temporary captain appointed to take charge of the remaining men trying for the freshman team. About thirty men reported at the first 'varsity practice in the cage. This list does not include the men on last year's team, as they will not begin work for several weeks yet. Light practice in fielding and batting will continue till the weather permits out-door work. Judging from the showing of the candidates so far there will be no trouble in filling all the vacant positions with the exception of catcher. None of the men trying for this place seem to have pre-eminent ability, yet, on account of the great number of games scheduled, there ought to be several good men fully able to fill this position.

The new Casino Building has at last been opened to the students. The building has been fitted up with an indoor tennis court made by Wilson and Silsby, the famous sail makers of Boston, and also has two excellent bowling alleys. It is the purpose of the committee in charge to place shuffle boards and pool and billiard tables in the building and, if possible, to fit up a handball court. The tennis court is said to be the finest indoor court in the country and the greatest care has been taken in the selection and construction of all the apparatus in the building.

President Patton and Professor West are now taking a trip through the West in order to incite interest in the sesquicentennial celebration to be held next October. They have appeared at numerous banquets of the various alumni associations in all the principal cities and have met with great enthusiasm in response to the details of the arrangements to erect new buildings, establish professorships and scholarships and to institute more complete advantages for graduate and undergraduate study.
