An entirely new edition of the works of Lord Byron is announced by Macmillan and Co. It will be edited by Mr. W. E. Henley and will include, beside the complete poetical works, the letters of Byron, public and private, which with their spirit and ease and charm are usually admitted to be among the best of English letters. This edition, which will be in ten volumes, will present for the first time since the seventeen-volume edition of 1833, long since out of print, a fitting shrine for the works of one of the greatest poets of the century.

Mr. F. Hopkinson Smith has just published a new book of short stories under the title of "A Gentleman Vagabond and Other Stories" (Houghton, Mifflin and Co., $1.25). The volume contains some of Mr. Smith's best work, most of the stories having already appeared in the magazines. The author is too wellknown to require any further praise. We only regret that he could not have illustrated the book.

Houghton, Mifflin and Co. have departed somewhat from their usual method of bookmaking. It is bound in heavy buckskin with gilt lettering and the paper is rough with deckled edges. The Gentleman Vagabond will make an excellent gift and should be widely circulated during the holiday season.
