The report published in many of the evening papers on Saturday concerning Dr. Rogers's engagement is utterly without foundation. The report stated it as certain that Dr. Rogers was engaged to a Boston girl, and it mentioned several photographs and letters of this girl which were found in Dr. Rogers's room. The whole story was a piece of malicious invention intended, doubless, to create a sensation. The photographs and letters found in the room were those of Dr. Rogers's own sister, and there was nothing which gave the slightest evidence of an engagement. The report is furthermore emphatically denied by those who knew Dr. Rogers. The story was a base fabrication.
