The sum of money recently subscribed to establish a memorial to the late Dr. Peabody, will be used, in part to place a tablet to his memory in Appleton Chapel.
The material used will be the finest statuary bronze. The design has not yet been chosen by the committee in charge, but it will, in general plan, be similar to the tablet in memory of Mr. Nathaniel Thayer, in the First Church, Boston. This tablet is in the shape of an unrolled scroll, with ends folded over. It is 5 ft. 6 in. long and 3 ft. 8 in. wide.
The makers, Messrs. Shreve, Crump and Low Co., of Boston, will have the plaster model ready for the inspection of the committee in a few weeks. If this model is approved the work will then be hurried on rapidly.
A sum of about $4,000 will still remain from the fund. This amount may be used to found a scholarship, but the matter is, as yet, undecided.
