French Department Lectures.

Three series of lectures has been announced by the French Department. The first one will be given on Wednesdays by professors in various departments. The different lectures are as follows:

Oct. 23. Professor Kittredge: The Romances of the Round Table in England.

Oct. 30. Professor Marsh: A French Literary Court of the Twelfth Century.

Nov. 6. Professor Royce: Jean-Marie Guyau, philosopher and moralist.

Nov. 13. Mr. Gates: Certain Aspects of Contemporary French Literature.

Professor Bocher on Mondays will give a series of ten lectures on Moliere and French Comedy in the Seventeenth Century. The dates and subjects will be as follows:

Oct. 21. French Comedy in the first half of the Seventeenth Century.

Oct. 28. The Life of Moliere and his early work.

Nov. 4. Moliere as an Imitator of the Italians.

Nov. 12. Moliere and the Precieuses.

Nov. 18. Moliere and Louis XIV.

Nov. 20. Moliere and the Church.

Nov. 25. Moliere as a Satirist.

Dec. 2. Moliere as viewed by his contemporaries.

Dec. 4. The Moliere Cult. Recent criticism and research.

In the spring Professor de Sumichrast will lecture on the French Drama of the Nineteenth Century. His subjects will be:

1. The Romantic Drama.

2. The Drama of Scribe and his school.

3. The Drama of Angier and Dumasfils.

4. The Vaudeville and the Farce.

5. The Realistic Drama.

6. The Symbolistic Drama.
