G. L. Wrenn '96, last year's tennis champion, beat R. T. Parke '98, the winner of the fall tournament, yesterday in the match for the championship of the University.
The match was loosely played and one sided. Wrenn played fairly well, but showed lack of practice, making several double-faults and frequently driving into the net. However, he did some good smashing of Parke's short lobs and played well at the net. Parke stayed most of the time in the backcourt; he did not run to the net more than six or seven times during the entire match, and was thus at a disadvantage, as he lobbed poorly and generally failed to pass Wrenn at the net. He played a careless game and did not seem to be in as good form as he was last Friday, when he defeated Ingraham.
In the last set Wrenn had a walk-over, winning nearly every point.
In the consolation finals Fitz easily defeated Carleton.
The summary:
Singles:- Championship Round.
G. L. Wrenn beat R. T. Parke, 6-2, 6-2, 6-0.
Consolation Singles:- Final Round.
W. S. Fitz beat P. G. Carleton, 6-1, 6-4.
