A week from today, on Friday, Oct. 25, the 'varsity crew which has been training for some weeks past will row a two mile race with the B. A. A. crew over the regular two mile course in the Basin, starting from the Union Boat House and rowing up stream. The B. A. A. crew is a particularly strong one, for in addition to having been practicing to a considerable extent during the summer, the crew will have on it several old Harvard 'varsity crew men-notably, C. Cummings '93, who rowed on the 'varsity in '91, '92 and '93; L. Davis '94, who rowed No. 4 in '93, and was captain in '94; R. Blake '94, who was substitute in '92 and '93; D. Jones '92, who rowed four years on his class crew will row No. 7; Crowninshield, who stroked the B. A. A. crew that won the New England championship four oared last 4th of July, will stroke next Friday.
The race will be rowed in light barges, Harvard conceding to B. A. A. the '98 freshman Davy barge.
The 'varsity though they have been rowing now for two weeks have no particular form or watermanship to boast of. The launch is now ready for use and with that to aid Mr. Watson in the coaching, improvement enough may be expected to give the race considerable interest.
The make-up of the two crews with the weights of the men is as follows:
HARVARD. B. A. A.
Stroke, Bullard, 165. Crowninshield, 154.
7 Jennings, 185. Jones, 150.
6 Stevenson, 178. Davis, 173.
5 Perkins, 177. Cummings, 175.
4 Ames, 174. Fay, 164.
3 Hollister, 170. Blake, 168.
2 Chatman, 168. Horton, 168.
Bow, Goodrich, 169. Tudor (Catt), 142.
Cox., P. D. Rust.
For the past two weeks a number of picked freshmen have been rowing with strapped seats in a barge under the direction of Rust '98. Kales '96 now has charge of the men, who are rowing in the following order: Stroke, McDuffie; 7, Perkins; 6, Thomson; 5, Duffield; 4, Bigelow; 3, Smith; 2, Swift; bow, Lamson.
