Football.

The working of the new football rules was very apparent in the practice of the varsity yesterday afternoon. Most of the playing indicated a return to an open style of play and good, honest football. The play was sharp and spirited; of course it is too early to attempt to criticise anything more than the spirit in which the men went at their work, which for the most part is most commendable. If special praise be bestowed on any of the players, Captain Emmons, the Brewers, Moulton and Borden surely deserve it.

It was a pleasure to see the practice limited to a few minutes' play.

Doucette '95 and McKay, L. S., who comes from a military school in New York, came out yesterday. Both are remarkably heavy men. Tilton and Lewis spent a long time drilling them in the duties of a snap-back.

Phelan is being worked regularly as a fullback, and may possibly be the next choice to Brewer and Stevenson. The sale of football tickets will probably begin today. The work on the field is progressing rapidly and everything will be in readiness for the first game with Dartmouth on Saturday. In case arrangements for a big game are made much larger stands will be erected.
