Amherst, 10; Harvard, 9.

After putting up a creditable game against Dartmouth on Tuesday, the 'varsity nine turned back yesterday and played a game that kept its supporters in agony during the afternoon. The only man who had no error scored against his name was Hayes, but he was so very slow that several times the Amherst men were credited with hits to right field which should have been out with a quick fielder.

Perry pitched for three innings and did poorly. The men show a lack of confidence when he is in the box. Ames, who finished out the game, did a little better. He held the Amherst team down to two hits in the six innings that he was in the box. Whittemore played by far the best game in spite of his two errors. The whole team showed a tendency to go to pieces at critical moments.

In the eighth inning Harvard lost a chance to score an extra run through McCarthy's being coached in. Stevenson got a single, stole second and went to third on Hayes's hit. Seannell got his base on balls and the bases were full. McCarthy hit to Gregory who threw to first, where there was no one to catch the ball. Stevenson and Hayes scored and Scannell crossed the plate on a wild throw to third. McCarthy was coached in and caught at home. Had he staid on third he would have scored on the hit by Whittemore which followed.

A brilliant running catch of Paine's hit by Nichols deserves notice. The score:
