The candidates for the freshman nine are being thinned out gradually, as they show their inability to fill the various positions. At present there are about twenty men trying. The practice yesterday was fairly good, considering the condition of the field. The batting however was very weak, only one or two men doing at all well in this respect.
The teams were made up as follows:
First nine-Gregory, p.; Benson, c.; Brooks, 1b.; Dean, 2b., (Capt.); Hewes, 3b.; Castle, s.s.; West, l. f.; Gallagher, c. f.; Dexter, r. f.
Second nine-Grew, Hill, p.; Scott, c.; Turner, 1b.; Stevens, 2b.; Martin, 3b.; Gray, s.s.; Clarke, l. f.; Gannet, c. f.; Horton, r. f.
The men will remain in Cambridge through the April vacation, and will play several practice games with preparatory schools. A game has already been arranged with Hopkinson.
