Rev. Edward Everett Hale preached last night in Appleton Chapel from two texts taken from the nineteenth Psalm: "The heavens declare the glory of God," and "The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul." In the middle of this psalm there is a sudden change-the first part tells how all God's works in the heavens and on earth praise Him, while the second shows the relation of God to man. Here, as in many others of the more beautiful psalms, are connected together the infinite and the finite; the infinite works of God and the finite nature of man. So we find everywhere in life the finite and the infinite together. When we look at the stars we cannot help thinking what is there beyond them all; what is that infinite space; and yet we are set in the universe, finite in the infinite, and part of it. In the same way are God and man, one in the other. Every man is a child of God and part of Him. So if we will recognize that we have God in us we may have part of His infinite power. If you say this to an average man who does not feel that he is in God and God in him, he will perhaps say that though this sounds well enough to hear in church once a week, he cannot accept it. He may perhaps agree with you that his life may be in God, still he will not believe that he may have the help of God's power. He will go on making his way as best he can with only the help of his own brains and his own endeavors. But to a man above the average there is given a great strenght because he knows he is a part of God and can have the help of His great strength. So whatever he undertakes succeeds; his resolutions accomplish themselves and all his life is stronger and better.

The choir sang "I am Alpha and Omega," by Stainer, and "Blessed is He that Cometh," by Tours.
