In connection with the Frank Bolles Memorial Fund, circulars have been sent to Harvard graduates of the classes of '81-'82 and '87-'92, informing them of the nature of the fund and giving them an opportunity to subscribe. It is possible that some of the graduates of these classes and perhaps of older classes, may feel freer to send subscriptions if they know how much interest certain of their fellow-graduates are taking in the matter. Ex-Governor W. E. Russell and Mr. William R. Thayer are very much interested in it and they will be very glad to receive subscriptions, the former at 53 State street, Boston, the latter at 8 Berkeley street, Cambridge.
The following letter from Professor Norton, published by his permission, well expresses the feeling of the faculty.
To the Editors of the Crimson:
GENTLEMEN: I have not hitherto asked you to accept a subscription from me to the Bolles Memorial Fund because it seemed plain that the lead should be taken by undergraduates and graduates of recent years.
But all graduates, of whatever standing, are under obligations to Mr. Bolles for his faithful and exemplary services to the University. More especially, we members of the faculty have reason to be grateful to him, and to hold his memory in honor,-and those of us who knew him, as happily most of us did, in other than merely official relations, will hold it in affectionate remembrance.
I ask, therefore, for the privilege of contributing to the fund, and I enclose my contribution.
Very truly yours,
C. E. NORTON.
