The first game in the lacrosse championship series was played on Holmes Field Saturday afternoon.
The ball was faced at 4.40 and quickly went to the visitors goal, where it was swiped through by Dudley. Time, 20 seconds.
The teams quickly changed goals and the ball was faced again. After fifteen minutes of spirited play, during which the defence fields of both teams exchanged a number of long throws, the ball fell into the hands of our attack who for the first time tipped back and forth in their effective team play and secured a goal swiped by Blodgett.
The New York men now made a brace and succeeded in keeping the ball away from their goal; Roberts was particularly active and displayed some pretty stick work. The ball soon went off to one side of the field where it was secured by McKelvey who threw from far out in the field and got a goal. Time, seven minutes.
No other goal was thrown during the remaining part of the half and the score stood 2 to 1 in Harvard's favor.
After two minutes intermission, the ball was placed again. From this time on the New York twelve bunched their men around goal, and tried their best to keep the score down. Our defence and centre had things pretty much their own way, and kept supplying the ball to the attack and homes. Hood finally secured a pass from Blodgett and threw our third and last goal. Time, 8 minutes.
The visitors were compelled to leave after twenty minutes of the second half had been played and for twelve minutes after our third goal succeeded in blocking our attack by simply crowding around their posts.
The best work for Harvard was done by Blodgett and Goodale, for New York University hy Roberts and McKelvey.
