Scratch Races.

The scratch races were rowed off successfully yesterday afternoon. It was expected that some good material would show up from '98, and such was the case. Rice, No. 7 in the successful '98 boat, showed, under the circumstances, very favorable form. The third '98 crew did not row, on account of an injury which their barge received during a preliminary spin, from a collision with another '98 boat.

Several of last year's 'varsity men, at the last moment, had to take the place of men who had not appeared.

Hebard, 2 L. S., acted as starter.

The successful crews from each class were as follows.

'95. Nichols, Brown, Weston, Morrison, Cassidy, Youngman, Pool, Capen; cox., Orton.

'96. Carney, Amory, Lyman, Greenough, Crane, Stillman, Kales, Bullard; cox., Day.

'97. Lord, Sleeper, Sanders, Watson, Phelps, White, Fennessy, Cornwall; cox., Orton.

'98. Rice, McBurney, Barker, Lunt, Loyd, Kinnicut, Hosmer, Stanley.
