William C. Mackie, Med., has at last decided to play this fall and will begin training with the eleven next Monday.

'Varsity Practice.Yesterday was the first day for nearly a week that none of the 'varsity football squad was injured. The practice was very discouraging and the few spectators who turned out had to experience the humiliation of seeing the second eleven score two touchdowns against the 'varsity.

During the early part of the afternoon the men were divided into two squads and practiced the signals. Waters joined the line of backs and formed part of the interference. Two elevens lined up later in the afternoon and the 'varsity was unable to check the vigorous rushes of the second eleven backs. By clever dodging, Arnold succeeded in running half the length of the field and crossing the 'varsity line, but the touchdown was not allowed as he ran outside. There was considerable punting and much fumbling resulted. Newell played well at end on the second eleven and scored a touchdown, aided by good interference. Fairchild was tried at halfback but did not make the best of his opportunities. Beale's passing at quarter was quick and accurate. Wrenn and Foster were also tried with fair success. The 'varsity were only able to score one touchdown by a long run made by Phelan. The second eleven scored again by steady rushes. Emmons and Waters did not play, but were out in football clothes coaching the men. Lewis and Crosby also instructed the men in tackling and interference. The players seemed to have little life. They lacked determination in all their plays. Many of the men played as if they were afraid of being injured and were slow in getting started. As a whole the practice was exceedingly commonplace.

Ninety-Five, 4; Ninety-Eight, 0.The seniors and freshmen played a short practice half yesterday afternoon on Soldiers Field in which the seniors won by a single touchdown. They were too heavy for their opponents, although they did not play so scientific a game.
