The executive committee of the H. L. T. A. decided Thursday to choose twelve men who should play for places as Harvard representatives at the Intercollegiate tournament at New Haven, October 3. An open tournament was impossible on account of the nearness of this date. Yesterday's play was as follows: preliminary round, J. Chase defeated M. Johnston; A. Pier defeated A. Codman; J. B. Read defeated A. Couer. First round, G. Wrenn defeated P. Wrenn; J. B. Read defeated A. Couer. First round, G. Wrenn defeated P. Wrenn; J. B. Read defeated A. Pier; W. Gosline defeated E. Stevens by default; Thomas defeated Anderson by default. J. B. Read plays Thomas today at 10; G. Wrenn plays J. Chase at 11. The winner and the runner-up, with a third man chosen by the committee, will be Harvard's representatives.
