The President and Fellows of Harvard College have voted that owing to the lack of support given by the students, it is in expedient to build a new dining hall. At a meeting of fourteen representative men it was felt that the failure of the petition was due to a misunderstanding on the part of the college. It was voted unanimously that the students petition the Corporation for a new dining hall to be run on principles which are in the judgment of the Corporation the best suited to the needs of the college, the hall to be ready at the earliest possible date. It is hoped that the Corporation may be willing to erect such a hall at once, provided definite assurance can be obtained that a sufficient number of the members of the University will give it their support.
The undersigned, acting as a committee have placed books for signatures to the following petition at Memorial, the Foxcroft Club, the Twenty-one Club and at Leavitt & Peirce's:
James M. Perkins, 4 Stoughton,
C. L. Mix, 24 Grays.
Davis R. Vail, 4 Holyoke House.
Jas. Murray Washburn, 21 Holworthy.
Alfred E. Upham, 45 College House.
A. E. Nickerson, 65 College House.
F. E. Frothingham '94, 39 Thayer.
PETITION.The undersigned record their names in the list of those who desire to board at the proposed new Dining Hall during the next academic year. If registered as members of the University in October next, they intend to enroll themselves in the new Association under the Corporation's terms.
