HARVARD '96 vs. BROWN '96.

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

The freshmen played a very good game of ball on Saturday against the Brown Freshmen. They outplayed their opponents at every point, except, perhaps, base running, in which they were rather slow Worden Pitched and struck out eleven men, giving but five bases on balls. McMurray. who pitched for the Brown freshmen, were a' varsity uniform. He struck out but three men in spite of the fact that he recently pitched four innings against the Bostons, allowing them only one hit. Harvard made seven hits in all, the best work being done by Winslow. who made a home run in the third inning and a single in the first and McCarthy. who made two singles. The Brown freshmen were particularly weak at the bat, hitting safely but three times. Harvard '96 played in the field a steady game. except for a short time in the third and a short time in the fourth inning. Paul made two costly errors of bot grounders from Bustard's bat. O'Malley played a very good game behind the bat, except that he threw a little wild to second. Brown made in all seven errors, three being credited to Matterson at third. On the whole, the freshmen have a better outlook than usual for a good nine. The fact that they hit the ball every time but three gives good promise for their batting. The class should give them good support during the remaining four days of practice before they leave for Princeton. A good crowd of spectators each day will do wonders in the way of making them play a sharp and steady game.
