A fund of $2,000 has been raised by the surviving members of the class of 1842 at Yale, which has been given to the Yale corporation, the income to be devoted to the encouragement of extemporaneous speaking among the students.
The fund and prize will bear the name of the late Prof. Thomas A. Thacher Yale '35 and formerly professor of Latin at that university. The income from the funds will be available at once, and the conditions for competition for the prize will be announced in a short time.
