Mr. Copeland's Lecture.

Mr. Copeland's third lecture was given in Sever 11 yesterday afternoon on "Oliver Goldsmith." In describing Goldsmith's life, Mr. Copeland pictured various characteristic scenes, and told anecdotes which brought out his special Celtic attributes of sensibility, humor, and kindliness. These characteristics are also to be seen in his most famous works, as "The Deserted Village," "She Stoops to Conquer," and "The Vicar of Wakefield." From these works Mr. Copeland read a few passages to show that Goldsmith was just passing out of the classic period of English literature.

At the next lecture, on January 6, Mr. Copeland is to read longer passages from both Goldsmith's verse and prose.
